Is this a good way to ask someone out?

So I want to kinda ask this girl out, Im super afraid of her saying no though so I figured I could just text her out of no where saying "hey are we still on for friday?" we have no plans for friday obviously, but I hope that she responds like "whats on friday" so I can be like "when we hang out duh!! I cant believ you forgot this" and then hopefully shell go along with it, but is this a good idea or not?? haha also, this girl always sends me mixed signals and sometimes it even looks like her friend likes me, so should I even do this? I just dont know anymore! Thanks.
