Why does the media call the Republicans' plots "Large Spending Cuts" instead of "Austerity"?

So that the "home-schooled" conservatives will know what they are talking about. (In an informal poll, over 70% of self-identified conservatives were fairly confident that "Austerity" was the name of the country where the Scotch [sic] Pop Group 'Franz Ferdinand' were shot, causing the Second World War...)
